(Spirit Lake)– Negotiations between Dickinson county and Milford Municipal Utilities over some property the county wants to purchase from the utility have reached a stalemate.
The county wants to purchase the land to build a new maintenance facility.
A groundwater protection ordinance the city of Milford recently adopted is at the center of the stalemate. The council adopted the ordinance at the request of Milford Municipal Utilities to protect an underground storage system for the city’s water supply. County officials say terms of the ordinance would make it very difficult if not impossible for them to operate a maintenance facility on the site.
Commenting on the matter at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting, Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche said he plans to meet with representatives of Milford Municipal Utilities to try to get something worked out.
