(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake city council members spent a portion of their lunch hour Thursday reviewing the city’s ordinance on architectural standards.
The ordinance was adopted September 14th, 2000. It was intended to ensure new buildings constructed in certain areas of the city that have a high visibility are aesthetically pleasing.
It was the council’s concensus that the ordinance should stay, but some tweaking be done to make it more easily understood by those applying for building permits. Instead of explaining the complicated ordinance to applicants, the council directed city staff to come up with a form that would spell out exactly what’s required and that would clearly describe what’s lacking in the event an application is denied.
