(Arnolds Park)– The statue of a young boy that was stolen from the Steve Kennedy Memorial at the State Pier in front of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park has been found.
Arnolds Park Police Chief Al Krueger tells KUOO news he found the statue around 6:00 this (Monday) morning in a ditch on 200th Avenue at county road A-34 west of Milford…about five miles from where it had been stolen Friday night.
Krueger says an anonymous tip the Dickinson County Communications Center received Sunday night is what led authorities to look in that area.
Krueger says the statue is fully in-tact and does not appear to have been damaged.
Two other statues–one of Kennedy himself and another of a young girl, were left standing at the memorial. The statues are bolted to a concrete slab.
Krueger thanks the public for their assistance into the investigation and for the anonymous tip that resulted in authorities finding the statue.
Assisting the Arnolds Park Police Department in recovering the statue were the Okoboji and Milford Police Departments and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
