(Spencer)– They’re still picking up the pieces and re-building in hurricane-ravaged south Florida.
The American Red Cross is one agency that’s been especially hard hit by the disaster, and there’s still a demand for their services in that region.
Ann Zahrt is the Director of the Iowa Great Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross in Spencer. She tells KUOO news they’ve been requested by the national organization to raise slightly more than 3,300-dollars.
To date, Zahrt says the Red Cross has fed more than two million people and provided shelter for some 125-thousand people…many of them elderly.
Zahrt says prior to the hurricane, the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund was already down.
Adding to the concern, Zahrt says, is the fact we’re still in the severe weather season here in the upper midwest, and that the hurricane season is just getting a good start.
