Spirit Lake Police Officers Get Special Training Opportunity

November 22, 2014

Area law enforcement agencies are taking advantage of a special training opportunity that’s been made available to them.

A training simulator from the Sioux City Police Department’s Regional Training Center has set up shop at the Spirit Lake Police Department through tomorrow. Jeff Finken of the Sioux City Police Department says it trains officers in several different scenarios and that they have had the simulator for two years now and it is in high demand.

Brian Stahl, a sergeant with the Spirit Lake Police Department, says they’re extremely grateful for having this type of training available.

The simulator is being made available to law enforcement agencies throughout Dickinson and some surrounding counties and is free of charge as a result of federal funding.

Finken estimates twenty five different law enforcement agencies and three hundred fifty officers throughout Northwest Iowa have been trained so far using the simulator.
