(Spirit Lake)– Crews are still very early in the stages of constructing Dickinson county’s new courthouse. But so far, officials with McHan Construction of Sioux City, the general contractor on the project, say nothing out of the ordinary has been turned up in the excavating that’s been done so far.
Meetings are being held once every two weeks to bring everyone up to date with how the project is progressing. One of those was held Wednesday.
It was reported at that meeting that excavating for the basement in the first phase of the project is about 85 percent. Officials with McHan say foundation footings will start going in next week. Underground plumbing and piping work could start in the next two weeks.
Officials say so far they’ve found no buried rubble, contaminants, bones or artifacts. And they say the ground is surprisingly dry, hard and stable. They add the project is on schedule so far.
