Renewable Energy Bike Ride Stops In Spirit Lake

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A group of bicyclists promoting renewable energy made a stop in Spirit Lake this (Tues.) morning as part of their ride across northern Iowa and southern Minnesota.

David Osterberg of the University of Iowa is among those participating in the ride. He tells KUOO news the sole purpose of the ride is to increase public awareness for renewable energy and to bend the ears of some lawmakers. He says more incentives are needed to launch renewable energy programs in the state.

Osterberg says the Spirit Lake school system with its wind turbines is a perfect example.

The six-day ride started Monday in Howard, South Dakota. In addition to Spirit Lake, the ride also had stops scheduled for Linn Grove, Storm Lake, Estherville and Fairmont, Minnesota.

While in Spirit Lake the group toured the school’s wind turbines.
