(Undated)– A disaster emergency has been declared in 29 northern Iowa counties due to severe storms and flooding.
Governor Tom Vilsack made the designation late Wednesday.
The storms dumped anywhere from seven inches up to a foot of rain in less than 36 hours between Monday evening and Noon Wednesday flooding streets and basements.
The proclamation provides for the use of state resources, including personnel, equipment and supplies.
Local counties receiving the designation include Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Pocahontas and Sioux.
