(Spencer)– Clay County Assessor Larry Rozeboom has resigned.
Larry Rozeboom was fired from his position in early September after county officials held a conference hearing to discuss an investigation by the DCI into allegations of Rozeboom using a county computer and cell phone to have inappropriate discussions with a 16-year-old male. At the end of the hearing the Conference Board voted to terminate Rozeboom, which he and his lawyer Ned Bjornstad of Spirit Lake quickly appealed. As part of the appeal Rozeboom was guaranteed a public hearing. Now, Bjornstad says Rozeboom has changed his mind and opted to resign instead. Bjornstad says Rozeboom made the decision based on the nature and notoriety of the case, the legal processes involved, expense, and other issues.
Bjornstad added it’s been a very difficult time for Rozeboom, and he feels it’s time to move on.
The DCI is continuing its investigation.
No charges have been filed.
