(Estherville)– Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College received an update Tuesday on the college’s new Wind Energy and Turbine Technology Program at their monthly meeting yesterday.
Instructor/Engineer Al Zeits reported that 15 students are currently in the program, which starts this fall. Each student has already climbed a turbine. The program focuses on construction, maintenance, repair and operation of wind turbines. Upon graduation students receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree. Starting salaries for new technicians are in excess of 14 dollars an hour.
Trustees also Tuesday held a public hearing on the sale of industrial training certificates for a New Jobs Training Project; approved a changeorder of less than 3,500-dollars for the new Technology Center at the Emmetsburg Campus; and they approved a transfer of land on Seventh Avenue South in Estherville to the Emmet County Board of Supervisors.
Their next meeting is set for October 19th in Estherville.
