(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake’s Hill Avenue South Project has become a victim of the abnormally wet weather.
Mark Cotter, an engineer with the Howard R. Green firm that’s overseeing the project, says it no longer appears they’ll be able to meet the October 9th completion date.
Cotter wouldn’t say just how far behind the project is, but he says a lot of work remains. Light poles, pavers, sign poles, signage, trash receptacles and benches still need to be installed. Some colored concrete remains to be poured; the stoplights at 28th Street still have to be installed; sodding and landscape plantings remain to be done on the boulevards.
As residents and motorists in that part of Spirit Lake start to get restless, Cotter says there’s a possibility they could open Hill Avenue before all that is complete. But he says that would have to be up to Allied Construction…the general contractor on the project.
Cotter says so far Allied hasn’t requested an extension on the completion deadline.
The Hill Avenue South Project has been ongoing since late last March.
