Farmers In Some NW Ia Counties Eligible For Federal Assistance

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– Farmers in nearly two dozen Iowa counties hit hard by the weather this year are eligible for disaster assistance.

Senator Charles Grassley says the U-S Department of Agriculture has designated 22 counties as disaster areas.

In northwest Iowa, Lyon and O’Brien counties were given primary disaster designation because of crop losses caused by snow, rain, high winds or tornadoes.

18 surrounding counties are also eligible. In northwest Iowa those include Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Osceola, Plymouth and Sioux counties.

Farmers are eligible for low interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency.
