Mason City Man Charged With Bribery In Palo Alto/Kossuth Co. Investigations

November 22, 2014

(Algona)– A Mason City man has been charged with bribery of an appointed official…a class “D” felony…in connection with an incident last month at the Kossuth county courthouse.

Palo Alto County Sheriff Russ Jergens says the original charge against Micah Sinnwell stemmed from an investigation by his office and the North Central Iowa Drug Task Force.

Jergens says Sinnwell allegedly attempted to bribe a judge at the Kossuth County Courthouse on August 13th for considerations of a pending court appearance. Jergens says Sinnwell was being held for transportation to the state prison intake facility at Oakdale on the original drug charge. Instead, Jergens says Sinnwell has been transferred to the Kossuth county jail in Algona where he awaits an initial appearance on the bribery charge.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Department of Narcotics Enforcement, Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office and the Emmetsburg Police Department.

Jergens says additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
