Low Impact Development Series Continues Friday

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The next in a series of workshops on low impact development in the Iowa Great Lakes will be held this Friday, October 15th at the Village West Convention Center.

Wayne Peterson, an urban conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, has helped coordinate the day-long workshops that are being held monthly. He says Friday’s session will feature Larry Coffman, Associate Director of the Prince George county Maryland’s Department of Environmental Resources. Coffman has authored numerous papers and articles on storm water management and pioneered development of bioretention areas, or “rain gardens”. Coffman is also principal author of Prince George county’s national award winning “Low Impact Development Design Manual”.

Organizers says there is still space available for Friday’s workshop. It starts with registration at 8:30 a.m. with the workshop itself from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Continuing Education credits are also available. Those wishing to attend should call 336-3782, extension three to pre-register.
