(Spirit Lake)– The Hill Avenue South Project was a topic of discussion at Tuesday’s Spirit Lake city council meeting.
The project was supposed to have been done October 9th. Days later, it’s nowhere near being completed. Now, the general contractor is requesting an additional seven weeks to get it done. Mark Cotter with the Howard R. Green Engineering firm, which is overseeing the project, told the council he rejected the seven week request. Instead, Cotter says he’ll recommend a two-week extension be granted. If the work isn’t done then, Cotter said the city could start docking the general contractor a thousand dollars a day for each day the project goes beyond the extended deadline.
Formal action on the extension will be taken at the council’s next regular meeting.
As we reported previously, a portion of Hill Avenue between 25th and 27th streets is supposed to be reopened to traffic this Friday.
On a related matter, the council approved an amendment adding 26,550-dollars to an engineering agreement with Howard R. Green reflecting additional work on the high school parking lot, of which the school is paying a portion.
