(Spencer)– The city of Spencer has signed a development agreement on the land that will house the new middle school.
At their meeting Monday, the Spencer city council approved the final plat for Pietz First Addition. In addition to the large middle school lot, the site also contains eight residential lots.
City Manager Dean Torresen says the development agreement is between the Pietz family, Spencer Community School District and the city. Torresen says the agreement specifies how costs to develop the site will be divied up among the three parties. The city will be reponsible for about 20 percent of the development costs, or roughly 50-thousand dollars, to pave streets and another 68-thousand dollars to upsize a sewer main.
The Spencer Community School District has already started construction on the new Middle School at the site on East 10th Street in northeast Spencer.
