Ribbon Cutting Held On Newly Rennovated Treatment Plant

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A ribbon cutting and open house was held today (Thurs.) to mark completion of a 3.5 million dollar upgrade of the Spirit Lake water treatment plant.

Dean Dodds, Superintendent of the city’s Water Department, says the project involved a physical expansion of the plant along with the installation of some state-of-the-art equipment.

Dodds says they’re still doing some tweaking here and there, but the new equipment is 100 percent operational.

The 3.5 million dollar cost is being picked up through Water Department revenues and a loan from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The last open house of the Spirit Lake water treatment plant was in 1984 when the city launched a major improvement program at the plant. Since then, several new facilities have been added and many functions have been automated.

The plant produces an average of 275 million gallons of treated water annually.
