Spirit Lake Police Nab Illegal Aliens In Traffic Stop

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake police say 10 of 11 people in a van that was pulled over Wednesday evening for a traffic stop were illegal aliens from Mexico. The other person was a female U-S citizen.

Police made the stop shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Highways nine and 71 near Dairy Queen.

Authorities contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement…a division of U.S. Homeland Security…who placed a hold on the individuals and the van they were in. All were taken to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office where they were held until I-C-E officials arrived a few hours later. All 11 subjects that were in the van were turned over to I-C-E officials and taken to Sioux City for processing.

The case remains under investigation.

In addition to the I.C.E–U.S. Homeland Security, Spirit Lake Police were also assisted by the Arnolds Park Police Department and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
