Crash Near Ruthven Claims Cherokee Teen

November 22, 2014

(Ruthven)– A one-vehicle crash early this (Thursday) morning near Ruthven has claimed the life of a Cherokee teen.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office identifies the victim as 19-year-old Cole Runyan of Cherokee.

Authorities say Runyan was northbound on county road N-18 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The 1992 Chevrolet Blazer he was driving left the road, entered the north ditch and struck several trees.

Runyan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office and the Ruthven Fire Department.
