(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum Board Friday adopted a new mission statement.
The statement reads as follows: “To manage, enhance and preserve through the ages and for all ages Arnolds Park Amusement Park, the green space, the Maritime Museum, Queen Two and Queen’s Court”.
In adopting the new statement, Frost says the board felt it was important to clearly identify the various entities the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum is in charge of.
Frost says the statement will be predominantly displayed in marketing and promotional materials and fundraising endeavors.
In other business Friday, the board heard updates from various committees, including Budget and Finance, which reported the organization’s debt has been reduced by nearly 200-thousand dollars since the first of the year and that an independent audit of the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum’s books is underway.
Joe Vanderlaan, the board’s representative on the Queen Two Committee, reported that group is looking at ways to increase ridership on the excursion boat in the upcoming season. He says ridership last summer was off by 15 percent and that the boat was chartered only 20 times…compared to 50 in the past.
Maritime Museum Board members also heard an update on plans for a major fundraiser to offset the organization’s debt. We’ll have additional details on that later.
