(Wahpeton)– Calmer conditions today (Fri.) have allowed crews to resume side scan sonar operations in the ongoing search for 12-year-old Collin Helmers, who’s been missing since a dock barge he was on sank almost two weeks ago on West Lake Okoboji.
The body of 31-year-old Mathew Molacek, who was also on the barge, was recovered a couple of days after the mishap.
Sheriff Greg Baloun tells KUOO news Gene Ralston of Ralston and Associates, an Idaho firm that specializes in high tech sonar operations, returned to the water this (Fri.) morning. Baloun says crews have still been unable to come up with anything.
Wind gusting to 35 miles-per-hour forced officials to suspend the operations Thursday.
