DOT To Fix Highway 71 Drainage Problem In Arnolds Park

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A project design engineer with the Iowa Department of Transportation was at Wednesday’s Arnolds Park city council meeting.

Tony Lazorwicz presented plans to rebuild some settlement basins on Highway 71 near Oak Hill Marina to correct a flooding problem in that area.

Lazorwicz says the project will consist in part of upsizing some pipe and enlarging the size of the outlet, along with putting in a bypass which would kick in during rainfall events surpassing one inch per hour.

Lazorwicz estimates it would take about six weeks to complete the project, which will be funded by the D-O-T. A bidletting is tentatively scheduled for March.

Lazorwicz asked the council if it would be preferable to do the construction in the spring or to wait until the fall. Phil Miklo of Oak Hill Marina requested the project be delayed until fall so as not to interfere with his busy season. The council agreed with that as well, if the D-O-T is willing to go along with it.
