Local Schools Awarded Star Schools Grants

(Washington, D.C.)– U-S Senator Tom Harkin announced Thursday 950-thousand dollars is being awarded to 45 Iowa middle and elementary schools under the Star Schools Program.

The money is included in the Fiscal Year 2004 Omnibus Appropriations Bill to help connect Iowa middle and elementary schools to the internet and Iowa Communications Network.

Locally, OB Laing Middle School in Algona will receive 25-thousand dollars; Boyden-Hull Elementary was awarded 25-thousand; the Clay Central-Everly Elementary School gets slightly more than 22-thousand; 25-thousand was awarded to the George-Little Rock Middle School; Johnson Elementary School in Spencer will receive 25-thousand dollars; slightly more than 22-thousand was awarded to the elementary school in Mallard; and the West Bend Elementary will get 25-thousand.
