IUB Approves Alliant Energy Rate Increase

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Utilities Board has approved a nearly 11 percent increase in rates for Alliant Energy’s Iowa customers.

The board also ordered the company to equalize rates over its Iowa service territory.

The increase will amount to about 107 million dollars. Alliant has requested an increase of more than 149 million dollars.

A company spokesman says the revenues generated by the increase will help pay for the completion of the Emery Generating Station near Mason City.

The spokesman, Ryan Stensland, says it will also help pay for new power poles and transmission lines.

The board also ordered Alliant to equalize its rates for residential customers within five years and within three years for industrial customers.

Stensland says it’s not immediately known how much rates will increase under the order.
