(Spirit Lake)– The first round of contract talks between the Spirit Lake Education Association and the Spirit Lake Community School District officially got underway Thursday, with the association presenting its initial proposal to the district for the 2005-2006 school year.
It calls for an increase in base pay under Schedule “A” to 27,850-dollars a year with increments being increased to 1,220-dollars. It also includes a provision that would allow full-time employees to bank sick days; maternity days would increase from 20 to 30; and employees would be granted five days of personal leave per year, with the district paying for the substitute teacher for two days and the employee responsible for the other three.
It also calls for employees to be paid twice a month…on the fifth and 20th.
The proposal, with insurance and other benefits included, would represent a 6.9 percent overall increase compared to the present contract.
The district will present its counter proposal to the Spirit Lake Education Association at 4:00 p.m. January 13th.
