(Fort Dodge)– Girl Scouts of Lakota Council has been awarded a 25-thousand dollar federal grant through the Department of Justice.
Karla Swanson of Girl Scouts Lakota Council says it will allow them to continue to offer the Girl Scout experience to young women who are residents of detention shelters…including Forest Ridge of Gruver.
Swanson says they’ve adopted a program known as “Uniquely Me” that helps build self-esteem through activities and conversations about respect, attitude, empowerment, creativity and making positive choices. She says two qualified staff members are provided to each facility to offer positive role models for the girls to help build trust.
Girl Scout programs have been offered at Forest Ridge since 1999.
