(Arnolds Park)– This announcement should come as no surprise in light of the recent frigid weather–there will be NO Christmas Eve Cruise this year on the Queen Two.
While there’s still some open water in the middle of West Lake Okoboji, the recent sub-zero temperatures have locked up Smith’s Bay in a coating of ice that only continues to thicken. And with even colder weather expected the rest of the week, that ice isn’t going to go away anytime soon.
As a result, officials with the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum officially announced today (Wed.) they’ve been forced to scrap any plans for a Christmas Eve Cruise.
Instead, they’re now working on plans for an “ice breaker” cruise this spring.
The Queen Two held it’s first ever and so far only Christmas Eve Cruise in 2001. Very mild temperatures that winter kept the lake open until late December.
