(Spirit Lake)– The brand new Bedell Family YMCA in Spirit Lake is in for a sizable refund from Alliant Energy-Interstate Power and Light Company.
Representatives of the utility company will be on hand this Monday, December 27th, the first official day of business for the Y, to present a 50-thousand dollar check.
Jan Bowles, Account Manager for the Spirit Lake Office of Alliant Energy, tells KUOO news the rebate is the result of the state-of-the-art geo-thermal heating system the YMCA put in. The system draws heat from 96 underground wells, each 300 feet deep.
Not only does the geo-thermal system heat the building, it also heats water for the pool and taps.
Bowles says Alliant offers similar rebates for all classifications of customers that install new, energy-efficient equipment.
A grand opening for the 44-thousand square foot 6.6 million dollar Bedell Family YMCA is set for January 1st, 2005.
