Bugs Found In New Vehicle Registration System

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– County Treasurers across Iowa are asking people to hold off on renewing vehicle registrations for now.

KUOO news reported last week on a new vehicle registration system the state was implementing. It went on line Tuesday. And Dickinson County Treasurer Linda Voss says it didn’t take long to find some serious bugs in the system. In fact, Voss says by Tuesday afternoon all her office could do was take people’s money and tell them their renewals would be processed later.

Voss strongly encourages anyone wanting to renew their registration to hold off until the bugs are worked out of the system. For those who’s registration expires this month you have all of February to get renewed; those expiring in February have all of March in which to renew, etc.

Voss says the state and its consultants worked through the night Tuesday trying to resolve the issues, but she says it’s going to take more time.

Voss adds the problems are widespread in all of Iowa’s 99 counties.
