(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake’s new Police Chief will come from within.
Mayor Eric Nielsen announced at Tuesday’s city council meeting a citizen’s committee has voted to recommend Jeff Hanson…a long time officer on the department…as Spirit Lake’s new Police Chief.
The city council will officially act on the appointment at its next meeting.
Kevin Bice represented the city on the citizen’s committee. He says the process of selecting a new chief was very difficult in that they started off with five very highly qualified candidates and narrowed that down to three finalists who were interviewed Monday evening. Bice says from that, Hanson was selected.
Hanson, a nearly 18-year veteran on the department, says he’s very excited to become Spirit Lake’s next Police Chief and is greatly looking forward to taking on the position. He says he has a few changes in mind to make the department more community-minded.
The position of Spirit Lake Police Chief has been vacant since Jon Martyr resigned in August of last year.
