Investigators Pinpoint Cause Of Spencer House Fire

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Investigators have found the cause of a fire that damaged a house in Spencer earlier this week.

Firefighters were called to 209 West Park Street Wednesday afternoon. Since then, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been working with the Spencer Fire Department to determine a cause. They ruled the fire was accidental in nature. They say it started in the basement where a discarded cigarette started some combustible items on fire.

The blaze caused significant damage to the basement and kitchen floor. Smoke damage was reported throughout the rest of the home. Damage was estimated at between 15-thousand and 20-thousand dollars.

No injuries were reported.

Spencer firefighters were on the scene about two and-a-half hours Wednesday.
