Spencer Council Sets Bidletting On Hwy. 71 Project

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The Spencer city council will take bids on the Highway 71 south reconstruction project next month.

During a special meeting Wednesday evening, the council unanimously adopted a resolution that set the date for the bid-letting that will pave the way for Menard’s to come to town.

The council will accept bids during a special meeting Monday, February 28th.

The cost of the project is estimated at 3.23 million dollars, with Menards covering around 360-thousand and the city and D-O-T covering the rest. City Engineer Jim Thiesse told the council that the estimates are coming in under budget and there seems to be a lot of interest in the project.

The city will hold a public informational meeting regarding the project Monday, January 31st from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Center Cleaners store in the South Park Mall in Spencer.

The entire project will take about 200 working days to complete. Work will begin this spring. Thiesse says by November 1st they hope to have the south leg of the project complete, including entrances to the future Menards store.
