Two Milford Residents Caught With Meth Precursors

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Drug charges have been filed against two Milford residents spotted buying meth precursors in a Spirit Lake store Wednesday.

44-year-old Ryan Shaw was charged by Spirit Lake police with possession of a precursor, pseudoephedrine, with intent to distribute methamphetamine…a class “D” felony; possession of anhydrous ammonia…a serious misdemeanor; and intent to manufacture a controlled substance…a class “C” felony.

39-year-old Cynthia Leckband was charged with possession of a precursor, pseudoephedrine, with intent to manufacture methamphetamine…a class “D” felony.

Spirit Lake police say they received a report around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday from Wal-Mart regarding two people buying items commonly used as precursors in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Spirit Lake police stopped a vehicle the two were in for a speeding violation a short time later on Highway nine on the west edge of Spirit Lake. A subsequent search resulted in authorities finding the precursors.

Authorities then executed a search warrant on a residence at 1382 210th Street near Milford that resulted in additional evidence being found, including anhydrous ammonia that was being stored in a fire extinguisher.

Spirit Lake police say their investigation continues and additional charges may be filed.
