Gov. Vilsack Names Tom Bedell To Board Of Regents

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– Governor Tom Vilsack announced today (Fri.) he’s appointing Spirit Lake businessman Tom Bedell to the Iowa Board of Regents.

Bedell is Chairman of Spirit Lake-based Pure Fishing which he’s run since 1979. He is the son of former Democratic Representative Berkley Bedell who founded Berkley and company, which later became known as Pure Fishing.

Vilsack also appointed Ruth Harkin, wife of Iowa Democratic Senator Tom Harkin, to fill another vacancy on the Regents, and reappointed Rose Vasquez to the board.

Vilsack earlier this week appointed Iowa Cubs Majority Owner Michael Gartner and Des Moines Businesswoman Teresa Wahlert to the board.

All of the appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.

Lawmakers have indicated they’ll grill the new appointees and University of Iowa officials about the recent shake-up on the board of regents.
