ILCC Trustees Adopt Budget

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– The board of trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College Tuesday adopted the college’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

It calls for an increase in the tax asking…going to 77 cents per one thousand dollars assessed valuation.

Trustees say the increase is still lower than what it could have been thanks to a six-cent equipment levy that was passed by voters in September, 2004.

A public hearing was also held to amend the current fiscal year’s budget to reflect additional expenditures for additional new jobs training funds and the wind turbine project. College officials say it will not result in any additional tax askings.

Trustees were also updated on five new programs ILCC is looking at adding in the fall of 2005. They include Biomass Energy Processing, Sustainable Energy, Pharmacy Technician, Web Page Programming and Radiology.

Paperwork for the programs is on the way to the Iowa Department of Education. If approved, the college would start recruiting students for the new programs with a Fall of 2005 intended start date.

The programs were identified in an on-line survey the college conducted last December. College officials also contacted experts in each of the industries to determine their needs.
