(Spirit Lake)– Pony Express made its annual Good Friday pilgrimmage across Clay and Dickinson counties, raising thousands of dollars for Camp Sunnyside…a camp for crippled children located outside of Des Moines.
In Dickinson county, $1,350 was raised in Spirit Lake; $303 was raised in Lake Park; $188 in Terril and $131 was collected in Montgomery. Amounts raised in Okoboji, Arnolds Park and Milford weren’t immediately available late Friday afternoon.
In Clay county, $347 was raised in Everly; $193 in Royal; $293 was collected in Petersen; $105 in Sioux Rapids; and $90 was raised in Rossie. Amounts from Webb, Gillette Grove and Spencer weren’t available yet late Friday.
Don Essick, Vice President of the Northwest Region of Pony Express, says those amounts are all up from previous years.
The first Pony Express ride was held on March 30th, 1968. It raised over 12-thousand dollars. Since then, nearly eight million dollars has been raised for Camp Sunnyside.
