(Jackson, Mn.)– Any ice left on area lakes after today’s (Monday’s) 71 degree weather is highly unsafe and should be avoided.
Case in point: a rural Jackson, Minnesota man today (Monday) fell through what was left of the ice on Chandler Lake about 10 miles southwest of Jackson.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says rescue crews were called to the scene on the southwest side of the lake shortly before Noon. Upon arriving officials found 74-year-old Marvin Rezac about 35 feet from shore in seven to eight feet of water.
Rezac was rescued and transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare where he was hospitalized for possible hypothermia.
Authorities urge everyone to stay off any ice that may still be present on any area lakes or ponds.
