(Spirit Lake)– Predictions of 70 degree plus temperatures, low relative humidity and high wind for Friday have authorities concerned over the potential for grass fires.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says those conditions will push the fire-safety index to the extreme category.
Mike Ehret, Dickinson County Homeland Security/Emergency Management Coordinator is urging everyone to refrain from burning. Ehret says the 14 one-hundredths of-an-inch of rain that fell Wednesday in Spirit Lake wasn’t enough to suppress the danger.
As of right now Ehret says a burning ban has not been implemented in Dickinson county.
There’s one exception to that, though. The city of Spirit Lake has a permanent ban on open burning as the result of a city ordinance.
