(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday approved a Street Committee recommendation to change parking in front of Campus Cleaners on Ithaca Avenue from parallel to diagonal. The city will assist by footing the cost of material, estimated at slightly more than five thousand dollars. The city hopes to eventually extend diagonal parking on that side of Ithaca Avenue all the way to Lake Street. But city councilman Jerry Harbst, who also serves on the Street Committee, says the city just doesn’t have the money to do that right now.
The council approved a request to close some streets for this year’s MainSail-A-Bration; approved architectural standards for Forbes Liquor Locker with the provision a drainage problem on the north side of the building be addressed; and they approved architectural standards for a used car dealership to be located north of Kentucky Fried Chicken/Long John Silvers in the Ferguson Business Park.
Spirit Lake’s little league fields may soon be off limits to smoking. Councilman Jerry Harbst requested the matter be placed on the agenda for the next council meeting.
