November 22, 2014

(LeMars)– A National Guard unit based in LeMars will be headed to Iraq in July.

Lieutenant Colonel Greg Hapgood of the Iowa National Guard says soldiers with Troop C, 1st Squadron 113th Cavalry of the Iowa National Guard have been alerted and mobilized for federal active duty.

The action is part of Operation Noble Eage, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terror.

Approximately 160 soldiers have been called up, with mobilization set for July of this year. They’ll remain on active duty for 18 months.

The unit will perform surveillance missions to assist commanders in planning and executing missions.
