(Arnolds Park)– For the first time in its history, the University of Okoboji Foundation’s endowment has hit three million dollars. That was the message delivered to board members at their quarterly meeting Thursday.
Total grants gifted in the community since the foundation was founded 15 years ago amount to one and-a-half million dollars. The largest recipient in the past year was Camp Foster YMCA which received 75-thousand dollars; 110-thousand will be paid this year for the new Bedell Family YMCA.
Other grants awarded in the past year include nearly five thousand dollars to the Lakes Area Hockey Association; 10-thousand to Stephens College; five thousand to the Spirit Lake Protective Association; three thousand dollars to the city of Arnolds Park; eight thousand to Discovery House; and 10-thousand dollars to the Dickinson County Historical Society and Museum. Grants to be paid this year in addition to the YMCA are three thousand dollars to the Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence; 25-thousand to the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum and 10-thousand to Shepherd’s Fold Ministries.
The U of O Foundation currently has 109 members, including 83 personal and family memberships and 26 corporate memberships. New members are always welcome.
The organization’s annual membership meeting will be held August 11th at a location to be determined.
