Highways 9 & 4 Through E’ville To Be Re-Surfaced

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Motorists travelling through Estherville can expect to see a lot of road work later this summer.

The city council Monday approved a pre-construction agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for the reconstruction of Highway nine from just west of the city limits all the way to the eastern city limits, and for Highway Four from Highway Nine north to Maplecrest Drive.

While the Highway Four project consists mainly of resurfacing and some curb and gutter replacement, Clyde Bartel, a staff engineer with the D-O-T’s regional office in Sioux City, says the work on Highway nine will be more extensive. He says the existing four-lane will be converted to a three-lane road from the Des Moines River Bridge to just east of 28th Street.

Bartel says the combined projects have an estimated cost of 2.75 million dollars. He says a bid letting is scheduled for May 17th with construction to start in late June or early July. Bartel says they hope to have the project completed by the time the snow flies this fall.

He says the project will be structured so as not to interfere with RAGBRAI in July and Sweet Corn Days in August.
