No Injuries Reported In Lakes Apartments Fire

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A minor fire caused some excitement early this (Saturday) afternoon in uptown Spirit Lake.

The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to Lakes Apartments at 1514 Hill Avenue shortly after 1:00 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Pat Daly tells KUOO news upon arriving firefighters found smoke in the building. Upon investigating, Daly says they found an air conditioner in an apartment on the lower level of the building with a bad cord on it. Daly believes the problem may have stemmed from a nearby lightning strike either late Friday night or early this (Saturday) morning. Daly says crews quickly extinguished some bedding that had caught on fire and tossed it out a back window. Crews ventilated the building to get rid of smoke.

About 20 people that were in the building at the time were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about 45 minutes.

The Spirit Lake Police Department and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the scene.
