Clay Co. Attorney Announces Resignation

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The Clay County Attorney, who may be publicly reprimanded, is resigning.

Michael Zenor announced his resignation last week, two days before a supreme court panel recommended he should get a public reprimand. The Grievance Commission says Zenor violated conflict of interest rules when he worked as a private lawyer for citizens charged with traffic violations.

The Iowa Supreme Court will make a final decision on the public reprimand.

Zenor’s resignation is scheduled for June 7th. He’s been the county’s top prosecutor for 26 years.

Assistant County Attorney Mike Houchins says Zenor’s resignation wasn’t related to the reprimand. He says Zenor planned to resigned so he could move to the Lakes Area.

Iowa law requires County Attorneys live in the counties they serve.
