(Hartley)– A collision between a sport utility vehicle and a school bus near Hartley Thursday sent three people to the hospital.
The Iowa State Patrol says the collision took place around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 18 about four miles west of Hartley.
Authorities say a 1987 Jeep Cherokee driven by 18-year-old Jeremy Gibbons of Sanborn was westbound on Highway 18 when he rear-ended a Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn school bus which had stopped to pickup some students.
Gibbons was taken to a Primghar hospital with minor injuries–he was treated and released. Two students were taken to Spencer Hospital, one complaining of pain.
About two thousand dollars in damage was reported to Gibbon’s vehicle; the bus sustained an estimated 12-thousand dollars in damage.
Troopers believe Gibbons may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
