Good Neighbor Funds Distributed

(Spirit Lake)– The Okoboji-Spirit Lake Good Neighbor Fund has distributed nearly 74-thousand dollars to 13 local charities to assist with their operations during the current year.

The fundraising goal this year was 75-thousand dollars; not quite 74-thousand was raised, meaning the charities received atleast 75 percent of the amounts they requested.

Nearly 51-thousand dollars was raised in the campaign itself. The additional funds consisted of 5,500-dollars in court fines; 1,634-dollars from interest on savings and 7,152-dollars from interest on certificates of deposit. There were 481 individual donations from individual persons or businesses.

Here’s a breakdown on the amounts awarded to the various agencies: The Red Cross will receive 9,892-dollars; 9,795-dollars will go to Camp Foster; the Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault will get 7,020-dollars; Discovery House will receive 7,386-dollars; 4,358-dollars was awarded to ECHO-PLUS; the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa will receive 1,111-dollars; Dickinson County Kinship gets 4,558-dollars; 3,758-dollars was awarded to Girl Scouts; Boy Scouts will get 4,283-dollars; Shepherd’s Fold Ministries will receive 6,478-dollars; Time Out Nursery was awarded 3,243-dollars; Upper Des Moines Opportunity gets 5,829-dollars; and the Voluntary Action Center was awarded 6,205-dollars.
