(Spirit Lake)– A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Saturday to comemmorate completion of the Hill Avenue South project in Spirit Lake.
Mayor Eric Nielsen recalled the poor condition of the city’s main drag prior to construction getting under way on the first phase of the project back in 1997. He referred to an editorial in a Storm Lake newspaper that was critical of the poor condition of the city’s main street. Now, Nielsen says Spirit Lake is serving as a model for other communities.
Neilsen says the city has already seen healthy returns from the project in the way of new businesses and industries and hundreds of new jobs, along with 405 new housing starts since 1998.
