A.P. Council Gives Mixed Reaction To Street Re-Naming Request

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A request to rename a street in Arnolds Park is getting a mixed reaction from city council members.

Steve Anderson of the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum is requesting the city rename Lake Street in honor of the late Captain Steve Kennedy. Anderson is requesting the street be re-named “Steve Kennedy Boulevard”.

He presented his request at Wednesday’s city council meeting. The council decided to take the matter under advisement as not all members were present. It’s expected to come back up again at their next meeting.

On another issue, discussion over the need for a skateboard park resulted in the council directing city staff to contact the Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission to work on a visioning plan. City Administrator Ron Walker says it would encompass various areas of town, including the downtown area and city park.
