Hay Chopper Fire Sends One Person To Hospital

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– One person was injured late Thursday night when some haying equipment caught on fire in a field northwest of Milford.

The Milford Fire Department was called to the area of 1920 170th Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Upon arriving firefighters found a hay chopper on fire. Officials say the operator was injured when he jumped out of the cab. The operator, who’s name wasn’t immediately available, was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. There was no word on the extent of injuries.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately certain.

The machine is owned by Arco Dehydrating of Lake Park.

Emil Richter of the Milford Fire Department says it took a lot of foam and water to put out the fire, which was fueled by hay.

Milford firefighters were on the scene about an hour.
