School officials in Spirit Lake are grinning ear to ear today. Superintendent Tim Grieves says bids for the Sami Center and new high school gym came in well within budget.

Grieves tells KUOO News a contingency fund can be used for additional amenities in the performing arts center if it’s not spent during construction.

Christensen Construction of Estherville was awarded both the auditorium and gym contracts last evening. The total projects were estimated at 10 million 205 thousand dollars. Christensen’s bids came in at 10 million 187 thousand dollars – about 8 thousand dollars below the engineer’s estimate. Six other firms turned in bids.
